Colour TV pricesGO flatJan 03, 2003: Hyderabad: Colour television (CTV) prices have crashed in last two months to an all time low 5% for the regular models and 30% for the flat screen ones. A 21inch flat screen model today costs as low as Rs 14,000, while prices of a regular 21inch have down to Rs 10,000. A trend that is primarily driven by drop in prices of flat picture tubes and intense competition is changing the television viewing culture in India. Whirpool to expand distribution network in SouthJan 04, 2003: Chennai: The southern region of Whirlpool of India is planning to expand its distribution with a view to maintaining its dominant share in direct cool Refrigerators and front load Washing machines and double the share in large frost-free refrigerators. Even with the industry witnessing a flat in growth in refrigerators and a negative growth in washing machines, Whirlpool of India could report a positive growth in these segments and the overall growth was 15% in the Year ended-2002. LG to launch low priced audio systemsJan 06, 2003: KOLKATA: LG Electronics India (LGEIL) is planning to market low-end audio products in the country to get a better grip of the market after its high-end products failed to make much headway. In tune with its strategy to grab a larger market share for audio products, LGEIL has asked its Korean parent, LG Electronics, to manufacture a range of low-end audio systems specifically for the Indian market. The parent is expected to produce about eight models in the sub Rs 10,000 range. The time of the launch is yet to be finalised. LG announces promotional campaign to cash in on world cupJan 11, 2003: NEW DELHI: Seeking to cash in on the World Cup Cricket euphoria, LG Electronics on Friday announced a major promotional campaign and said it was eyeing 60 % growth in sales in the first quarter ending March 2003. Targeting sales of Rs 920 crore between January and March this year, LG has also earmarked Rs 35 crore for a consumer promotion campaign "World Cup Pass Chahiye", which will run from January 5th to February 28th this year. The promotional campaign will further emphasise that LG is the only company offering a pass for the Cricket World Cup unlike other companies, which are offering tickets.
Samsung targets higher revenueJan 15, 2003: New Delhi: Electronics major Samsung has targeted a 67% increase in revenue during 2003. Having achieved Rs. 1,700 crores in sales in 2002, the company feels that powered by several factors such as new digital products, range enhancements in all home appliance products, a wider sales network and the cricket world cup fever, sales should touch Rs. 2,800 crores in 2003. The strong performance by colour TVs and the significant growth in home appliances sector especially fridges and washing machines, helped the company surpass the year’s target of Rs.1, 520 crores by a healthy margin. Philips launches 'Matchline' CTV seriesJan 16, 2003: New Delhi: Philips India today announced the launch of ‘Matchline' Colour Television series with `Pixel Plus' Technology for improved picture quality. This technology, which was introduced in other parts of the world last year, is valid only for large screen sizes and is expected to boost sales of hi-end CTVs including real flats, projection and plasma ones for the company. From 20% value contribution to total Philips' CTV sales in 2002, this hi-end category is expected to grow to 30% of the company's TV business this year. HP launches new consumer PCsJan 18, 2003: Banglore: Hewlett Packard India Private Limited has announced the launch of new consumer PC lineup, an enhanced range to meet requirements of diverse consumers. Speaking to reporters Ravi Swaminathan, Vice- President, Personal Systems Group of HP India Pvt Ltd, said they are committed to offer the latest technology at the best price and a positive customer experience. A technology bundle on offer today includes the Compaq Presario DVD desktop 6220, HP Deskjet printer and an HP scanner at Rs 43,490 only. Compaq Presario home PCs are available exclusively through 450 retail stores across 200 cities and town in India. In addition the company’s online store, Cool Dukaan provides consumers the avenue of their choice to access a Compaq Presario Home PC. Godrej Consumer Products net sales up by 20%Jan 22, 2003: Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) has recorded a 20% rise in the net profit at Rs. 14.78 crore for the third quarter ended December 31st 2002 compared to Rs. 12.3 crore in same period of previous fiscal. The board has a third interim dividend of Rs. 2 per share for 2002-03 (50%) taking the total interim dividend payout to Rs 6 per share. The total share rose to Rs. 128.93 crore. Voltas floats new range of Air ConditionersJan 22, 2003: Visakhapatnam: Voltas India Ltd, a Tata group company, launched its new range of air conditioners with advanced technology. The new products would help Voltas grow by 30% in the coming season. The other products, including new Slimline split air conditioners and new duct able splits would benefit commercial enterprises such as Restaurant, Shops and Offices and households respectively. The Mini Magic range of water dispensers would be marked by a new sterilizer cabinet with a built-in ozone generator. Voltas, which exports 20% of its cooling products, would start exporting on a bigger scale from next year. While 2,000 units had already been exported, another 2,000 were in the pipeline. It will launch itself into consumer durables in another three years once its commitment to Samsung and LG for manufacturing of products was over. Seagate Intl. to launch new productsJan 25, 2003: Kolkata: Seagate International is working on developing a host of products that integrate hard disc in consumer electronics, but has no plans to set up any manufacturing base in India. They are working on developing a lot of products with additional features which can be useful to users by integration of hard disc in consumer electronics products. It is planning to announce the launch of few products on this line during the next six months. The process of development was taking place at company's international centres and it has about 55 % share over two million market of India. LG to focus on premium productsJan 27, 2003: Banglore: LG Electronics India is betting on premium products like DVD-writer, combo drive and optical mouse, new peripheral products, display and optical storage devices (OSD) in addition to existing products to take its turnover to Rs 4,800 crore this calendar year. The array of products the company has lined up for 2003 includes computer peripherals and DVD-based home theatre systems. They are already market-leader in the OSD segment, and these product offerings will give more choice to consumers. Their product innovation is driven by market response, and they shall be coming up with more products in the IT space.
New multi-user home projector launchedJan 27, 2003: Mirc Electronics has launched a home theatre projector, Onida XI. The features of the Onida XI are 2000:1 contrast ratio, DCDI video processing using Faroudja technology which gives video quality, 3000 hours of lamp life and DLP engine. It can be connected to DVD, VCD, laptop, cable and digital camera. Philips India releases TV sets with new technologyJan 29, 2003: Banglore: Philips India released the first of its top-of-the-range Matchline TV sets with "Pixel Plus Technology" and said it targeted to increase its share in the real flat screen TV segment to 40 % from now. The new technology doubles the horizontal resolution of standard TVs and increases vertical resolution giving a better picture of over two million pixel resolution per frame. The new Pixel Plus sets combine the brilliant colours of Real Flat Black Matrix picture tubes with the flicker-free performance of 100-Hz Digital Scan TV sets and the smooth motion of the company's Digital Natural Motion Technology. Samsung India targets 17% of CTV marketJan 29, 2003: New Delhi: Samsung Electronics India has targetted to capture 17% market share in the colour televisions segment this year by selling 12 lakh units in the domestic market and exporting two lakh units. The wholly owned subsidiary of South Korean Consumer electronics major Samsung has launched seven new colour television models and a new promotion scheme to achieve its target of selling 4.5 lakh units during January-March 2003. The new television models introduced under the 'Q1' and 'Q2' series would come equipped with various sound features. Philips back in the black in Q4 with Rs 38-cr netJan 31, 2003: Mumbai: Philips India, the domestic subsidiary of Europe’s largest electronics company, Royal Philips Electronics, bounced back into the black for the October-December quarter as costs fell and other income rose substantially. Mumbai-based Philips posted a net profit of Rs 38.2 crore versus a loss of Rs 22.2 crore in the year-ago period. Income from operations stood at Rs 453 crore against Rs 449.7 crore in the previous period.A company release stated that operating profit improved substantially to Rs 33.9 crore for the fourth quarter ended December versus a loss of Rs 16 crore, and to Rs 97.2 crore for the full year versus Rs 38.7 crore due to better price realisation and cost management.
